According to Mayo Clinic, scarlatina is also known as scarlet fever. Scarlet fever rash, or scarlatina rash, refers to a bright red rash that covers most of the body. Scarlet fever is a bacterial illness that develops in some people who have strep throat.

According to Mayo Clinic, scarlet fever occurs most often in children between 5 and 15 years old. In addition to a red rash, other symptoms of scarlet fever include red lines, a flushed face and strawberry tongue. Strawberry tongue is a condition in which the tongue appears red and bumpy, with a white coating in the early stage of the disease. These symptoms usually last for about a week. Scarlet fever has the potential to cause serious conditions affecting the heart, kidneys and other organs if left untreated.
