According to WebMD, the rice diet plan involves more than rice; it helps a person lose weight by dramatically reducing the calories, fat, sugar and protein in his diet. The plan also incorporates exercise and meditation to help the dieter lose weight by altering his physical, emotional and spiritual state.
Wikipedia states the simplified daily guidelines of the rice diet as four to six vegetables, three to five fruits, six to 11 starch servings, one to two dairy servings and 1 to 3 ounces of animal protein. Zero to 4 tablespoons of olive oil are also included in the daily servings of the rice diet plan.
WebMD notes that alcohol is not allowed in the program, and the diet is separated into three phases. The rice diet plan is considered very restrictive because it only allows a certain amount of calories each day in each low-portion meal.
There are no packaged foods or meal requirements and no in-person meetings involved in the rice plan diet. Most of the meals include high-fiber foods, especially rice, that help the dieter cut back calories, while still feeling full. Supplements are needed with this diet, since it does not provide the dieter with the recommended daily amount of calcium and vitamin D.
