Nerve pain in the little finger occurs when the ulna nerve is compressed or injured, states the AAOS. A consistently bent arm can pinch the ulna nerve. In order to prevent pain, a person needs to avoid keeping his arms in a bent position for long periods of time. For instance, someone who sits in front of a computer or desk needs to raise his chair to decrease the angle of the elbows. The elbows can especially become bent at night during sleeping, so the person needs to wear a splint or brace to prevent bending.
Another method to reduce nerve pain in the little finger is to regularly do nerve-gliding exercises, advises the AAOS. These exercises help the ulna nerve to more easily slide between the elbow joints and reduce pain. In order to do these exercises, the person holds his arms out straight, then curls and rotates his wrist and fingers.
