However, prenatal vitamins are meant to supplement a healthy diet, not replace it. Essentially, a healthy diet is the best way to consume vitamins and minerals. Omega fatty acid supplements may also help promote brain development in the baby. Prenatal vitamins are prescribed for the entire pregnancy and ideally should be started before conception.
