Their portion sizes should be limited, and patients should consume more carbohydrates and fiber.

Many patients may lose some weight immediately following surgery and may also complain of nausea and lack of appetite, notes the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. Certain medicines may cause nausea, so patients should eat smaller and frequent meals. Patients who continue to experience nausea or lack of an appetite should consult with their primary care physicians.
