Making the detox lemonade requires mixing lemon juice, maple syrup, cayenne pepper and water. The detox lemonade is part of the Master Cleanse regimen for losing weight.
To make the detox lemonade, mix 2 tablespoons lemon or lime juice with 2 tablespoons genuine maple syrup and 1/10 teaspoon cayenne pepper. Mix well, and stir in 10 ounces water. For best results use organic lemon juice and maple syrup as well as purified water. Fresh-squeezed lemon juice yields the best results.
To make the lemonade ahead of time, mix equal parts lemon juice and maple syrup to be used as a concentrate. When ready to make the drink, pour 4 tablespoons of the concentrate into a glass, add the cayenne pepper, and pour in the water.
The detox recipe is from Stanley Burrough's book, "The Master Cleanser." The cleanse is supposed to last at least 10 days. The full cleanse eliminates all solid food from a person's diet, replacing the food with at least 2 liters of the detox lemonade. Each day should start and finish with a cup of herbal laxative tea.
The lemon juice provides vitamin C and antioxidants, while the maple syrup helps eliminate toxins from the body. The cayenne pepper is supposed to help the body burn off calories. WebMD.com warns that the full cleanse is unhealthy, and that any weight loss is bound to be temporary.
