Pull-ups require a pull-up bar. The bar can be freestanding or mounted on a wall or door frame as long as it is secure enough to hold the weight of the person doing the pull-ups. Pull-ups require gripping the bar and lifting yourself into place.
- Grip the pull-up bar
Take hold of the pull-up bar with both hands, palms facing out. Hands should be shoulder-width or a little further apart.
- Lift up
Pull up so your chin is at the level of the bar by engaging your arm, back and shoulder muscles. Avoid jumping or swinging your body as you pull.
- Lower down
Lower your body back down slowly. The pull-up is not complete until you have returned to the hanging position.
