Make sure you have a firm grasp of the bar with your palms facing away from you and your hands roughly shoulder width apart. Straighten your arms, and let your body hang.
Bend your knees, and use your arm muscles to slowly pull yourself up until your chin clears the top of the bar. Keep your body steady throughout this process.
With your body tense and still, gradually lower yourself to the hanging position to complete one pull up.
