What Does a Prosthodontics Dentist Do?

A prosthodontist specializes in dental restoration and commonly does cosmetic dentistry procedures, such as tooth veneers, invisible fillings, bleaching and whitening. This type of dentist also does crown, bridge and denture work and installs dental implants.

For tooth veneers, prosthodontists bond thin porcelain to the teeth, perfecting their shape, position and color. They fill cavities with fillings that blend with the natural color of the teeth.

Prosthodontists also repair chipped or broken-down teeth with caps or bridges and replace missing teeth with full or partial dentures. For implants, they drill into a person's jawbone, secure a titanium screw in the bone then mount a restored tooth on top of the implant.
