To prevent belly fat, do not eat too late in the evening, get regular exercise and be careful about what you eat while at work, according to registered dietitian Elizabeth M. Ward for Men’s Fitness. Also avoid other bad habits, such as eating in front of the television and eating too much following a good workout.
Be more cautious when choosing what to eat and being around certain people who are bad influences, says Ward. It is easy to be tempted into ordering pizza or drinking more beer than necessary when hanging out with friends, but this only leads to belly fat. Instead of doing this, consider bringing over a healthy snack or going out and choosing a healthier option at a restaurant.
There are also some eating habits that are difficult to break but can lead to belly fat quickly, notes Ward. Eating in front of the television is a dangerous habit and one that needs to stop immediately. Not only is this often done late in the evening when there should not be more snacking, but it is hard to tell how much is being consumed. A bag of chips goes quickly when casually watching a favorite show.
Some foods are worse than others when it comes to belly fat, explains Liz Vaccariello for Reader’s Digest. Foods to avoid include unhealthy fats such as full-fat dairy and trans fat; high amounts of fructose; and artificial sweeteners.
