According to FitDay, leading studies show that energy drinks such as Powerade are not beneficial to one's health due to their high levels of sugar, sodium, artificial colors and flavors. In some cases, Powerade induces weight gain as its sweet taste urges consumers to drink more to hydrate properly.

Powerade is not recommended as a part of any workout regime. FitDay explains that a single 32-ounce bottle of Powerade contains as many as 300 calories, generally not the best beverage choice for anyone's workout. Instead, exercisers should opt for a cold bottle of water. Glacieu's Smart Water is notable for being packed with electrolytes, a better way to get the hydration needed without all the unnecessary sodium and sugar.
