Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet is designed to stabilize blood sugar levels to help eliminate cravings. Foods that are allowed in Phase 1 include healthy lean proteins, vegetables, beans and legumes, nuts, low-fat dairy, eggs and unsaturated fats.
Phase 1 is the first and most restrictive phase of the diet plan. It lasts two weeks. There are a total of three phases of the diet. No starches, sugary foods, alcohol, whole grains or fruits are allowed during Phase 1. Foods such as whole grains and fruits are added back to the diet during Phase 2. All foods can be added back in moderation as long as weight gain is not experienced in Phase 3.
