The Vestibular Disorders Association explains that vestibular rehabilitation therapy is an exercise program for people who suffer from inner-ear problems. The vestibular system controls the sensory information used for eye movement and balance. Disorders of this system can result from disease, injury, heredity and environmental factors. The association also points out that sometimes the cause of vestibular disorders remains unknown. The most common vestibular disorders include Mnires disease; benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, or BPPV; labyrinthitis or vestibular neuritis; secondary endolymphatic hydrops; and perilymph fistula. Two possible symptoms of these disorders are dizziness and loss of balance.
Colorado ENT & Allergy notes that problems with balance are linked to a loss of coordination between the eyes and the inner ears. Some of the home exercises recommended by Colorado ENT & Allergy are intended to help people improve their ability to focus their eyes on a single place while moving their head, which is essential for proper balance.Learn more about Exercise
