A pediatric ophthalmologist is a surgical and medical doctor who offers eye care services to children. Ophthalmologists have training in practically all eye conditions that affect children.
Some services that a pediatric ophthalmologist offers include eye exams, prescription glasses, care for eye injuries and surgical procedures. Ophthalmologists are trained to treat children in a way that makes them feel comfortable and relaxed. They arrange their offices with children in mind and use equipment designed for child eye care. An ophthalmologist usually has four years of medical school, one year of surgical internship and three additional years of residency training in ophthalmology before beginning a regular practice.
