To remove hard contact lenses, wash your hands thoroughly, and use the pad of your fingertip to gently press on the eye, next to the contact lens, to break the suction. Touch the pad of your fingertip to the lens to remove it. Alternatively, use a hard contact lens plunger to remove the lenses.
- Wash your hands
To avoid spreading bacteria to the eyes, wash your hands thoroughly before removing contact lenses. If your eyes are dry, and it is difficult to remove the lenses, rinse your eyes with contact lens solution or sterile saline.
- Press on the eye with your fingertip
Locate the contact lens on your eye, and press with the pad of your fingertip next to the edge of the contact lens to release the suction. Gently touch the pad of your fingertip to the lens to remove it.
- Use a hard contact lens plunger
As an alternate method, use a hard contact lens plunger to remove hard contact lenses. Moisten the suction cup on the plunger, and gently touch it to the center of the contact lens. The contact lens sticks to the suction cup and is easily removed. Use your fingertip to gently slide the lens off the suction cup before cleaning the lenses.
