Lecithin originated from the Greek Lekithos, which means egg yolk. The term describes fatty substances with health benefits, explains Drugs.com. Such substances are found in animals and vegetables, such as beef liver, eggs, steak, peanuts, oranges and cauliflower.
Since lecithin is mainly composed of fat, it forms a protective wall around the body, strengthens membranes and prevents the sticking of harmful debris, explains Herb Wisdom. Preventing the debris and cholesterol from sticking, lecithin fights damages that arise from coronary artery disease, thus preventing heart disease and other cardiovascular infections.
Lecithin also repairs liver that is damaged by alcohol and other toxins, claims Herb Wisdom. When fat deposits are prevented from sticking around specific body sections, the fats move to the liver for metabolism. As a result, the health of the liver is enhanced.
Most studies on the effects of lecithin on the brain conclude that the users of lecithin have improved memory, especially the patients who suffer from Alzheimer's disease and other memory-specific neurological complications, reports Herb Wisdom.Learn more about Vitamins & Supplements
