Lecithin originated from the Greek “Lekithos,” which means egg yolk. The term describes fatty substances with health benefits, explains Drugs.com. Such substances are found in animals and vegetables, such as beef liver, eggs, steak, peanuts, oranges and cauliflower.

Since lecithin is mainly composed of fat, it forms a protective wall around the body, strengthens membranes and prevents the sticking of harmful debris, explains Herb Wisdom. Preventing the debris and cholesterol from sticking, lecithin fights damages that arise from coronary artery disease, thus preventing heart disease and other cardiovascular infections.
