Pain, numbness or weakness in either arm are hallmark symptoms of a heart attack or stroke, as stated by the American Heart Association. These are life-threatening events and require immediate medical attention.
Other symptoms of heart attack include breathing difficulty, chest tightening or pressure, and nausea. All symptoms are not always present and can come and go. Subtler signs of heart attack, such as shortness of breath and back pain, may also be present and are more common in women. Stroke victims can have problems speaking, or a face that is also numb or appears to droop. It is imperative to seek medical attention as soon as possible when any of these symptoms are present. The sooner treatment is started, the better the outcome is likely to be.
