To naturally detox the liver, a diet that is high in fiber and that includes a wide variety of nutrient-rich foods and sufficient B vitamins is recommended, says the National Liver Foundation. In addition, for some individuals, a medically supervised fast is also recommended in order to quickly eliminate toxins for proper liver function.
According to the National Liver Foundation, one of the best diets for a healthy liver is high in fiber and includes vitamins C and E, which help to protect and to promote healing for liver damage, B-complex, methionine, cysteine and choline. A diet that includes all food groups and a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans and whole grains can provide all of the nutrient necessary to detoxify and to keep the liver healthy. In addition, a lifestyle that incorporates exercise, the elimination of alcohol, care in the use of liver-affecting medications, and avoidance of breathing or touching toxins, such as toxins found in cleaning products, insecticides, cigarettes and other chemicals, is also recommended.
Symptoms of liver disease may include weakness and fatigue, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, yellow discoloration of the skin or jaundice, states Mayo Clinic. Liver problems can result from a variety of factors such as genetics, viruses, alcohol use and obesity.
