Although a lymph infection can require prescribed medications like antibiotics if it is caused by bacteria, there is a natural way to relieve symptom like pain and swelling by placing a cool compress on the area, reports the National Institutes of Health. Some other things a person with a lymph infection can do is get some rest and take an over-the-counter pain relief medication.
Swollen lymph nodes can be caused by infections due to bacteria, virus and fungi. Some medical conditions that can cause a lymph infection are mononucleosis, strep throat and in rare instances, tuberculosis, according to the Mayo Clinic. This condition is called lymphadenitis. Symptoms, which can include redness, tenderness and pain, can occur at the site of the infection, notes the National Institutes of Health.
