Natural treatments for fibroids include green tea, traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture, according to Cathy Wong for About.com. As of 2015, there are only a few studies on natural treatments for fibroids.
Green tea is one natural remedy for fibroids, though only information from animal studies is available, explains Wong. In these studies conducted over eight weeks, mice with fibroids took green tea extract, and there was a significant decrease in the weight and volume of the fibroids. Traditional Chinese medicine may also serve as a natural remedy for fibroids. In one study, a group of women with fibroids went for six months using traditional Chinese medicine in addition to imagery and body therapy. When the treatment was over, the fibroids became smaller or stopped growing in several patients.
Acupuncture is another natural remedy option for women who have fibroids, states Wong. Research done on women with fibroids shows that acupuncture works to shrink fibroids, but there are other studies that show the results are uncertain. More research on acupuncture must take place before people see this as a possible remedy for fibroids. Since natural remedies for fibroids are not proven, it is a good idea for patients to work with a doctor before treating fibroids naturally.
