One of the more effective natural treatments for those suffering from erectile dysfunction is Panax ginseng, also known as red ginseng, according to Healthline. Other effective treatments include the hormone dehydroepiandrosterone, acupuncture and zinc supplements.
A review of several studies on the effect of red ginseng on ED found evidence that the substance was an effective treatment, reports Healthline. Participants took between 600 and 1,000 mg of red ginseng three times daily. Other studies on the effects of DHEA, a natural hormone produced by the adrenal glands that the body converts to both estrogen and testosterone and made as a dietary supplement using yam and soy, have shown that participants receiving 50 mg a day were able to get and maintain erections with more frequency than those taking a placebo.
As of 2015, the results of studies on using acupuncture to treat ED have been a little more mixed, according to Healthline. While one 1999 study showed improvement in erection quality in 39 percent those being treated with acupuncture, other studies on the effectiveness of acupuncture have yielded more mixed results. However, some researchers still consider that this treatment warrants further investigation. Finally, although more studies are necessary to establish the effectiveness of zinc supplements, this treatment may be a viable option for men with ED who show low zinc counts.
