February is National Cancer Prevention Month in the United States, but there are additional awareness campaigns for various types of cancer and cancer-related issues that occur from January through November. The American Cancer Society provides a calendar of these events and campaigns.
Types of cancer that have their own awareness months include breast, testicular, skin and lung cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. Health care providers use the cancer awareness months to educate patients of how they can reduce their risk of developing cancer. Charities hold events during the awareness months to raise funds for research. Another objective of the campaigns is to support those affected by the disease.
