A metal partial denture has pieces of metal with plastic teeth and gum areas, according to the American Dental Association. It looks different depending on whether or not the denture is a precision attachment partial denture, conventional partial denture or a Valplast partial denture, reports Morrell Dental.
The Valplast partial denture most commonly includes no metal, but metal may be present to strengthen the material. In each case metal is visible in different places. The most common metal partial denture is the conventional partial denture, according to Morrell Dental. In this case, metal clasps in a C-shape, I-shape or Y-shape create a framework for the denture. On top of this framework are plastic teeth and plastic gum-colored materials with spots open for natural teeth.
