It is estimated that only 17 percent of adults in the United States are mentally healthy, reports the CDC. This state of health is a combination of emotional, psychological and social well-being. Emotional well-being is evident when a person is generally cheerful and peaceful. Psychological well-being includes optimism, openness, hopefulness and possessing a sense of purpose. Social well-being includes social acceptance and a sense of community.
