Adults who have all of their adult teeth have a total of 32 teeth. Children who have all of their baby teeth, or "milk teeth," have 20 teeth.
As baby teeth fall out, adult teeth move into place to fill the gaps where baby teeth were. These adult teeth continue to move into place until the last wisdom tooth is exposed. Many adults do not keep their wisdom teeth because they tend to crowd the mouth. If an adult has all of her wisdom teeth removed, she retains 28 teeth instead of 32, as long as no other teeth are removed.
