WebMD indicates that people on Atkins Diet are allowed to eat only 20 grams of net carbs during the Induction phase, 25 to 45 grams during the Ongoing Weight Loss phase and 50 to 70 grams during the Pre-maintenance phase. Lifetime maintenance involves over 75 grams of net carbs daily.
According to WebMD, all kinds of fruits, grains, bread, starchy vegetables, alcohol and dairy products (excluding butter and cheese) are prohibited during the Induction phase. During the Ongoing Weight Loss phase, which lasts until the person is 10 pounds away from his ideal weight, some whole food carbohydrates, such as yogurt, nuts and berries, can be eaten again. Lastly, more fruits, whole grains and starchy vegetables are added during the Pre-maintenance phase that lasts for a month after the person reaches his ideal weight.
