A homemade foot soak can be made using Epsom salt, baking soda, essential oil and a variety of other ingredients. The foot soak can be made ahead and given away as gifts sealed in airtight containers or mason jars.
The steps below show how to make a homemade foot soak. The steps offer a basic recipe, as well as a few alternative ingredients that can be added.
- Create basic foot soak
- Add scents
- Adjust water temperature
- Add rocks
Combine equal parts Epsom salt and baking soda. Kosher salt, baking soda or cornstarch can be added to the mixture if desired.
Add a few drops of an essential oil to the mix. Any essential oil works, but it is not required. Dried parsley or lemon juice can also be used for aroma.
Combine the mix with hot water to dissolve. Use about 3 tablespoons of the foot soak per gallon of water.
Add water to a large bowl, tub or foot bath. The hotter the water, the more effective the foot soak, so adjust the temperature to what is tolerable and comfortable.
River rocks or smooth pebbles added to the bottom of the foot bath offer a soothing experience during the soak. The rocks offer a smooth surface to rub the feet over, helping to ease tension, soothe aches and smooth skin.
