Both of the two most popular low-carb diets, Atkins and paleo, can deliver weight-loss results, according to WebMD. However, the emphasis on animal protein may make those diets unsuitable for people with cardiovascular or kidney problems. Furthermore, the strict initial phase of Atkins may cause some to abandon it.
Both low-carb diets focus on whole foods, vegetables and lean protein. Atkins allows dairy but no nuts at first, paleo forbids dairy and allows nuts. The lack of variety, expense of whole foods and time to prepare them may cause some dieters to abandon both Atkins and paleo diets, says WebMD.
