Tuberculosis tests are good for up to a year, states WebMD. When someone applies for certain types of positions, such as those within the health care field, the employer may require testing as a condition of hiring, notes Lab Tests Online.
While some people are tested annually for tuberculosis, people in high-risk occupations, such as those where they come into contact with infected persons, may be required to have a test twice a year, says Lab Tests Online. This is for their own health as well as the health of the patient.
In high-risk countries, such as Sub-Saharan Africa, infants receive BCG vaccines to slow the spread of the highly infectious disease, notes the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Infants born in the United States do not need to get the vaccine.
