Is Liver Cancer Treatable If Warning Signs Are Detected Early?

The earlier the diagnosis of liver cancer is made, the more likely treatment is to be helpful, according to the American Cancer Society. However, liver cancer is often difficult to catch in its early stages, as most symptoms don't appear until the cancer is advanced.

Symptoms of liver cancer include unanticipated weight loss, feeling full after eating very little, abdominal swelling, jaundice, and an enlarged spleen or liver. People who already have chronic hepatitis B or cirrhosis of the liver are at greater risk for liver cancer; some doctors recommend that these patients be screened for liver cancer using ultrasound or alpha-fetoprotein tests every six to 12 months, as the American Cancer Society explains.
