Drugs.com publishes three lists of muscle relaxers based on drug class, including neuromuscular blocking agents, skeletal muscle relaxant combinations and skeletal muscle relaxants; a list of common muscle relaxers is also available on Spine-Health, as of 2015. The Spine-Health list does not include all muscle relaxers on the market, but instead lists the most popularly prescribed muscle relaxers.
Flexeril, Soma and Valium are the most widely prescribed muscle relaxers, Spine-Health notes. Soma, also known as carisoprodol, is a short-term muscle relaxer usually administered every 8 hours in 350-milligram doses. Flexeril is typically administered every 6 hours in 10 milligram doses, while Valium is usually administered in 5 to 10 milligram doses every 6 hours for low-back pain muscle spasms.
