The Lions club collects and recycles used eyeglasses and distributes them to needy people in developing countries. Some local Lions clubs may sponsor programs that offer assistance for the purchase of eyeglasses.
The Lions accept donations of prescription and reading glasses, sunglasses and glasses with metal and plastic frames by mail and at collection centers located in libraries, schools, optometrist offices and other community locations. Volunteers clean donated eyeglasses, sort them by prescription strength, package them and send them to needy developing countries. Organizations can request recycled eyeglasses from the Lions for distribution at missions as long as the organization offers the eyeglasses at no charge, handles shipping and customs details and provides a follow up report to the Lions regarding the number of people served and the number of people who received eyeglasses.
