Leafy green vegetables such as lettuce and spinach are very close to having zero calories per serving. They can be eaten in enormous quantities without causing weight gain. They are also loaded with fiber and healthy vitamins and minerals, says Health magazine.
Common easily grown summer garden vegetables such as zucchini, tomatoes, peppers, broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage were on the list. Tasty vegetables like onions, garlic, turnips, beets and radishes made the list as well, as did mushrooms and pumpkin. Of course, well-known dieter's foods of carrots and celery were also on Health magazine's list.
The fruits on the list of very-low-calorie foods are all non-sweet citrus fruits, such as grapefruit, limes and lemons, and berries. Berries are also full of antioxidants and immune boosters according to Health magazine. Fitbie compiled a similar list of extremely low calorie foods. Fitbie's list had many of the same foods as Health magazine but also had cucumbers, sweet citrus fruits, apples, watermelon and apricots.
