The initial set-up of a Fitbit device requires the user to download the Fitbit Connect software to their computer, create or log in to a Fitbit account, add personal health details, and then sync the device to the account. To start, navigate to the Fitbit website and click on "Setup," then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
The free Fitbit Connect software uploads information from the device, which is then displayed on the user dashboard. After downloading the program, the main menu appears with the option to set up a new device. Follow the prompts to either sign in to an existing Fitbit account or create a new account. The program asks for personal details to accurately calculate calorie burn and distances.
Plug the removable USB sync dongle that comes with the device into the computer with the Fitbit nearby to sync with Fitbit Connect. Follow the directions to complete the sync. Most devices require the user to enter the four-digit code the shows up on the device. The Fitbit Flex sync, however, requires the user to tap the tracker and wait for a vibration, then to wait for a notification that the sync has worked successfully.
