The inactive ingredients in Salonpas patches include alicyclic saturated hydrocarbon resin, baking cloth, film, mineral oil and polyisobutylene. Styrene-isoprene-styrene block copolymer and synthetic aluminum silicate are other inactive ingredients, as Daily Med indicates.
Salonpas patches provide relief for moderate muscle and joint pain associated with sprains, strains, arthritis and bruises, as DailyMed explains. The patches are for external use only in adults 18 years of age and older. Individuals should not place Salonpas patches on the face, rashes, wounds, and damaged or sweaty skin. Salonpas patches are not appropriate for patients who are allergic to aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
To use Salonpas patches, clean and dry the painful area, remove the patch from the backing film, and place it on the skin, as DailyMed instructs. Do not use more than one patch at a time. Remove the Salonpas patch after eight to 12 hours. Apply a second patch if the pain is persistent, but do not use more than two patches per day.
