Crepey neck skin, which is another way of describing a neck with loose skin, can improve with the usage of certain creams and sunscreen, explains WebMD. Though crepey skin is unlikely to return to its younger form, high-quality products and even prescriptions can tighten the skin.
Both older men and women can develop crepey skin as they age. Because the neck skin is sensitive, it becomes loose rather than gaining wrinkles. Collagen and prescription retinoids can improve a crepey neck and help to firm it up, states WebMD. Doctors recommend applying the retinoids once a week for a few weeks, since an overexposure of retinoids can result in the neck becoming red and dry. Rub a pea-sized bit of over-the-counter retinol every other night before using a moisturizer.
Some firming products found at beauty stores can improve crepey skin. The products do not result in full improvement, but they can cause a slight reduction in sagging. One strategy to prevent further sagging is to apply sunscreen, or lotions with SPF, onto the neck. Sun exposure causes wrinkles and crepey necks, according to WebMD. Using a lotion with as little SPF as SPF 15 can make a big difference in the development of wrinkles, age spots and other skin blemishes.
