Oatmeal and baking soda baths, juniper berries, lemon, and aloe vera are all used to treat itchy skin at home, according to HowStuffWorks. Herbs such as basil, mint and thyme are also known home remedies.
Baking soda is well-known for easing itchiness, and a cup should be used in the bath to bring relief explains HowStuffWorks. A person should soak in the tub for 30 to 60 minutes, and then air dry the skin. Oatmeal can do the same, and 1 to 2 cups should be used in each bath. A salve of juniper berries and cloves can also ease skin itchiness and can be made at home using the herbs, unsalted butter and beeswax.
Lemon juice and aloe vera are easy to use to relieve itching, as a person can simply rub undiluted lemon juice or aloe vera gel onto the skin where it itches, claims HowStuffWorks. If interested in using herbs, it is best to choose basil, mint or thyme. All of these herbs can be made into a tea, and then the tea should be applied to the skin. One-half to 1 ounce of these herbs should be used per pint of boiling water and allowed to steep. When cool, the tea can be applied to the skin by using a cloth or cotton ball.
