Softening the wax in the ear canal may be done with hydrogen peroxide, baby oil, mineral oil or glycerin, claims Mayo Clinic. A couple of drops in each ear twice a day for up to four to five days is adequate to soften the wax. After a day or two following the wax-softening step, warm water should gently be introduced into the ear canal. It is best to use a syringe with a rubber ball and water at body temperature. The head should be tilted in order to straighten the ear canal and then tipped to allow the water to flow out.
When the water has drained out of the ear, individuals should make sure the ears are as dry as possible, explains Mayo Clinic. This is done with a towel or blow dryer. This process may need to be done multiple times in order to fully eradicate the wax that has built up in the ear. If the individual still feels as if wax is building up, visiting a doctor may be necessary.Learn more about Conditions & Diseases
