One home remedy that can relieve a toothache quickly is an application of whiskey, pepper, clove oil, onion, lime, garlic clove or vanilla extract on the aching tooth. Other home remedies include salt water gargling, applying an ice pack on the cheek, rubbing ice on the opposite hand, rinsing the mouth with warm water and applying an over-the-counter benzocaine gel.
To relieve a toothache quickly, rub whiskey with a cotton ball or finger on the tooth, or swish a small amount of it in the mouth. Alternatively, place a garlic clove sprinkled with salt at the base of the aching tooth. Also, wrap the tooth with an onion, potato piece or a lime wedge for a few minutes. The vegetable pieces can also be chewed on to relieve the pain.
If the toothache is caused by food particles, try a warm water rinse or flossing. Add a few tablespoons of salt to warm water, and gargle or rinse the mouth with it. In addition, consider putting a few drops of clove oil mixed with pepper or vanilla extract over the affected tooth.
When using ice, apply a pack on the outer cheek, or put a cube over the aching tooth. Another way to use ice is to rub a cube in the V area between the index finger and the thumb of the opposite hand for around five minutes. When applying benzocaine gel on the affected tooth, follow the directions given on the label.
