Home remedies for foot odor include washing and drying feet well, soaking feet in a salt solution, wearing open shoes to air feet and deodorizing feet with a foot powder, according to HowStuffWorks. Wearing socks made from natural fabrics and avoiding foods with strong flavors are also effective remedies.
Foot odor, or bromhidrosis, is a smelly condition caused when certain types of bacteria react with the perspiration produced by sweat glands on the feet, explains HowStuffWorks. These bacteria thrive in warm and moist places, such as the feet, socks and shoes. Though washing feet with deodorant soap cuts down the bad smell, washing too often may strip the protective oils from the skin and cause feet to crack or become scaly.
