Common materials around the home that are useful for removing scratches from eyeglasses with plastic or glass lenses include toothpaste, baking soda, vehicle cleaning wax and windshield water repellents. Other effective materials for plastic lenses are Armour Etch and brass or silver polish; however, these can damage glass lenses.
The process of removing scratches from glass or plastic eyeglasses involves applying the material with a soft cotton or wool cloth and then gently buffing out the scratches. Repeating the process a second time may be necessary with deep scratches. Armour Etch removes scratches by placing a thick coating on both sides of the plastic lenses. Allow them to sit for five minutes, and then rinse them without rubbing. Brass and silver polish remove scratches through application with a soft cloth, buffing the plastic lenses for several minutes, and then wiping clean without rinsing.
