Ideal snacks will contain less than 5 grams of carbohydrates total, but some diabetics may be able to eat stand-alone snacks that contain up to 10 to 20grams of carbohydrates. Snacks with more than 30 grams of carbohydrates, including items such as whole grain cereal with milk or a peanut butter sandwich, should be avoided entirely or eaten only before exercise.
