Operational hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST. In addition to providing information and referrals, the helpline features breastfeeding peer counselors on call to answer specific breastfeeding questions and provide support to mothers, fathers and expecting parents.
Along with providing general information on mental illness and supporting callers with empathy and understanding, the NAMI Helpline can provide callers with referrals to treatment services, support services and attorneys experienced in mental health issues, according to NAMI. Help is available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. EST.
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline offers free suicide crisis support 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 800-273-TALK (8255), according to its website.
