Hawthorn berries and other parts of the hawthorn plant are used to make medicines and are mainly used for diseases of the heart and other cardiac-related health problems. These issues can include congestive heart failure, chest pain, irregular blood pressure levels and high cholesterol.
Hawthorn is also used to help with the cure and treatment of other ailments, including digestive system pains, including diarrhea and indigestion. Hawthorn can also be used to treat tapeworm and other common infections found in the intestines. The berries and plant are also active ingredients in creams and can be used directly on the skin to treat sores, boils, ulcers and frostbite.
