Excess sugar in the body increases body weight by changing into fat deposits known as triglycerides, notes SFGate. After their formation, the fats move to lower areas of the body such as the waist, thighs and hips for storage. Foods that may lead to formation of triglycerides include soft drink beverages and fruit-flavored punch beverages. A weak immune system makes the body unable to fight disease-causing agents including bacteria and viruses; hence, persons who eat excessive sugar are highly vulnerable to diseases. Foods that may increase sugar level in the body leading to a weak immune system include table sugar, unsweetened orange juice and honey.
When the body absorbs excess sugar into the bloodstream, the level of blood glucose rises, increasing the chances of developing Type 2 diabetes, explains SFGate. Additionally, overconsumption of sugar makes it difficult to regulate blood glucose among diabetics irrespective of diabetes type. Chronic conditions that may attack persons who consume too much sugar include heart diseases, polycystic ovarian syndrome, acne and short-sightedness.Learn more about Nutrition & Diets
