Some good ways to get rid of feminine, or vaginal, odor are to wash the external genitalia regularly, avoid douching and see a gynecologist, according to Mayo Clinic. Vaginas normally have a mild odor, but when the odor is strong and persistent, medical attention is necessary.
Mayo Clinic recommends that women regularly wash the outside of their vaginas with mild soap to minimize vaginal odor. Women should also avoid douching because it may cause an imbalance in the microorganisms of the vagina.
The most common causes of strong, unpleasant vaginal odor are bacterial vaginitis, also known as BV, and sexually transmitted infections, according to Healthgrades. BV is the overgrowth of bacteria in the vagina and generally doesn't cause complications. Sexually transmitted infections require immediate medical treatment.
