Fitness Magazine suggests their PB&J Smoothie, Tropical Morning Smoothie and Sweet Spinach Smoothie as good recipes for weight loss. In general, a good recipe for a smoothie that helps with weight loss includes healthy fats, high-fiber carbohydrates and a lean source of protein.
The PB&J Smoothie consists of 4 ounces of plain, non-fat Greek yogurt, 2 cups of strawberries and 1 frozen, chopped banana. Combine these ingredients with 2 teaspoons of smooth peanut butter and 1/2 cup of ice in a blender and blend until smooth. For best results, add the yogurt to the blender before the other ingredients.
The recipe for a Sweet Spinach Smoothie calls for 6 ounces of plain, non-fat Greek yogurt, 2 cups of packed spinach leaves, and 15 red or green grapes. Other ingredients include 2 tablespoons of chopped avocado, 1 to 2 tablespoons of lime juice, and 1 peeled, cored and chopped pear. This smoothie contains 316 calories.
Nutrition expert Harley Pasternak states that smoothies are good for weight loss because they take up a lot of room in the stomach without providing too many calories. In addition, when the cellular walls of the fruit break up in the blender, their nutrients become easier to absorb, causing you to feel fuller longer due to the extra fiber released.
