Applying a warm, wet compress to a stye for five to 10 minutes three to six times a day is one home remedy that usually helps a stye heal faster, advises WebMD. Over-the-counter treatments in the form of ointments, solutions and medicated pads also can help.
A person with a stye should not wear eye makeup or contact lenses until healed, says WebMD. In most cases, a person can provide effective treatment for a stye at home. If a stye does not improve with home treatment, a prescription for antibiotic ointment or eye drops may be necessary, and if the infection spreads to the eyelid or eye, a doctor may prescribe antibiotic pills.
