Fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes and nuts are all healthy foods that are high in fiber, according to Mayo Clinic. High-fiber foods, which help the digestive system function properly, also include pastas, seeds and cereals.
Legumes and beans are the foods that are highest in fiber. For example, split peas, lentils, black beans, lima beans and baked beans all contain at least 10 grams of fiber per serving. Nuts and seeds, such as sunflower kernels, almonds and pistachio nuts, contain approximately 3 to 4 grams of fiber per serving.
Some vegetables are high in fiber. Cooked artichoke and cooked green peas both have at least 8 grams of fiber per serving, while boiled broccoli, boiled turnip greens and cooked sweet corn contain at least 4 grams of fiber per serving.
Additionally, certain fruits, such as raspberries, contain as many as 8 grams of fiber per serving. Other fruits, such as pears, apples, bananas and oranges, contain at least 3 to 5 grams of fiber per serving.
Many grains, cereals and pastas are high in fiber. Whole-wheat spaghetti and barley contain approximately 6 grams of fiber per serving, while bran flakes and oat bran muffins include approximately 5 grams of fiber per serving. Brown rice and popcorn are also high in fiber, with about 3 grams per serving.
