What Is Ganoderma?

Ganoderma, sometimes called reishi mushroom, is a fungus that has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years, according to WebMD. It is said to enhance health and prolong life.

People who take ganoderma claim that it boosts the immune system, decreases stress and improves sleep, according to WebMD. It has also been used to treat kidney disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and to aid recovery during chemotherapy. A small amount of scientific evidence suggests that ganoderma is effective in some areas, but the human studies are small. Scientists continue to research the fungus, specifically its chemical make up, to determine what conditions benefit from its use.
